Divisions

The selection of players within a division is made by the coaches  at the begining of each season after the first few training sessions.

Territory Premier League (TPL)Men and Women

TPL is the premier grade, also known as the 1s or firsts in other states. The expectation is players have a high level of fitness and skill. Players are expected to attend training if they wish to take the field.

Men and Women B Grade

B Grade is for those players who aspire to play TPL, or who perhaps have the skill but not yet the fitness to play at the top level.

Men and Women C Grade

C grade is the more social division. Players range from brand new, to long term players who may have slowed down a little.

Under 16 Super League boys and girls

Easts encourages our juniors who are skillful enough to play in our senior grades. Upon registration, register your child through the Junior registration link and select the “Junior Playing Senior” option.

gistration

Registrations need to be made via the online portal, select either junior or senior. For family members each registration must be made separately. Registrations need to be done before the commencement of the first game of the season. If you are joining the club after the season has started, your registration must be done before you take the field.

Players joining Easts from another local club or interstate must seek a transfer from their previous club, before they are able to take the field. If a transfer is not sort or approved by your previous club, you are not permitted to play for Easts. The club faces fines and loss of points if a player plays a game without the proper measures taken.

Transfers can be sort through RevSport upon registration or an email from your previous club’s secretary can be sent to president@edhc.com,au stating that you have permission to play for Easts and that you were a financial member of your previous club.

Fees

You need to pay fees to the club as well as annual insurance to Hockey Australia.

Club Fees

Fees are set by the committee at the beginning of each year.

The fees you will pay goes to cover the administration of hockey. These include (but not limited too) team nomination fees, turf fees for games and training, umpires and their continued education, game equipment and maintenance of the hockey facilities.

Hockey Australia Insurance

In addition to our club fees, all participants actively involved with hockey must have Hockey Australia and Hockey NT insurance which is a separate fee added on to our club fees automatically when registering or renewing. As of 2025, Hockey Australia and Hockey NT Insurance Fee is a combined total of $121.91 for seniors players.

Volunteers and parents who actively participate also need to have this insurance which is on the most part free of charge.

Other things you need

Hockey Stick
Hockey sticks can be purchased from local sports stores including the Cricket and Football Shop, Rebel and others. You can also purchase hockey sticks from online stores like Just Hockey, Hockey International and Hockey World (there are plenty more).
Shin-guards
Shin-guards (shin pads or shinnies) are compulsory for game play. They are available for purchase from most sporting stores starting from $10. When purchasing shin-guards, look for ankle protection. Soccer shin-guards usually do not offer ankle protection so try and find hockey specific guards. At an entry level, the soccer style shin-guards as a minimum will be adequate.
Mouth Guards
While mouth guards are not compulsory they are highly recommended. There are two main styles of mouth guards. The ‘boil and bite’ mouth guard is cheap and readily available from most Chemists and Sporting Stores starting from $10. A custom mouth guard may be obtained from your Private Dentist.
Gloves
Some people chose to wear a glove on their left hand to offer some protection to that hand when tackling. This glove also give protection to your knuckles when you get down low applying a block tackle as the turf can graze your knuckles easily. These gloves are available form previously mentioned outlets.
Inner
Inners are something some people wear under their shin-guards for comfort and to help reduce sweat.
Other protective equipment

It is compulsory for all players taking part in defensive penalty corners to wear a protective face mask.
Metal grilled marks, knee pads and gloves are recommended.

State Selection

Participation in senior Northern Territory representative teams is considered the pinnacle of hockey in the NT and also as a stepping stone for national squads / teams and national training programs.

The Territory Men’s and Women’s teams are called the ‘Stingers’. The Territory has recently joined the Malaysian Hockey League for the next 4 years.

The Northern Territory enter teams in all Hockey Australia championships

  • U/14
  • U/16
  • U/18
  • U/21

The Territory also enter teams for national masters competitions for athletes over 30 for women and 35 for men.

Easts proudly has members currently participating in all these Territory teams.

I came late to hockey having played soccer since I was young. My husband plays in A grade and I have friends who played in the women’s side who had taken me to watch games for a few years before I decided to make the change, and was welcomed very quickly into the C grade women’s team. They are a great fun team to be a part of. Hockey has now become a passion of mine, and is a major part of my social life. I would recommend it to anyone who wants some fun, fitness and to be part of a great community.
